Recently reading Mandisa’s latest post really inspired me to sit back and reflect on this year and where I am in my life at this moment.

Being the humans that we are it’s impossible to avoid heartbreaks, disappointments, set-backs that may spring up every once in a blue. I’m sure if we had the ability to control those things we would, but the reality of it is that they’re inevitable. And I’ve come to the point where I thank God for every bump in the road and giving me the strength to move forward toward his plan, that’s far more greater than I could have even conjured up in my mind for myself. Because every single defeat and every victory brought to where I am right now.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I’m truly thankful for his patience with me and undying love. For always seeing me as his wonderful design, even though my actions didn’t always prove that to be so. I don’t deserve that one bit especially with my stubborn nature. I’m so thankful for the desire God has put in my heart to not only be better but put action behind it and Do better, for his glory.

Yes, of course I’m grateful for the physical blessings but I’m to the point where I love God not simply for everything he’s done for me, but just for being Him. His faithful, consistent, all powerful, loving (I can go on and on)…self.

Friends, I can tell you myself that I’m not a fan of change at all. I like to keep things simple. I like consistency (for the most part) but I’m realizing to just let God take the wheel and direct my life whenever or wherever he see’s fit. I can’t allow fear to control my life.

There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection]. (‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬ AMP)

I know here on this earth I’ll never reach perfection, but daily I’m trying to strive toward it.

I wish you all blessings and happiness in 2015! Have a wonderful holiday! Be safe!

Twisted Curls Hairstyle

Hi Everyone!
Once again scrolling on Instagram I came across this beautiful style created by Tiffany Nichols!

She has plenty of cute sophisticated styles. Make sure you check her out! TiffanyNicholsDesign

I figured it didn’t look too hard. Why not give it a go! Luckily she had a YouTube video on this particular style, so I wasn’t totally on my own.

First you want to make sure your hair is thoroughly detangled and moisturized. Section your hair in half from ear to ear. Clip the front section out of the way. Now you should just be focusing on the back section. This is where it gets a little tricky. I had to get my mother to part my hair in the back just to make sure it was straight. Part the back section of hair right down the middle. You should now have 2 halves. Then part both halves down the middle, creating four sections.

Then I flat twisted each section beginning from the my nape up. Stop when you get to the middle of your head where you made the initial part, and pin! If you aren’t that great at flat twisting you can opt for braids as well.
All I can say is keep practicing. I’m still not perfect at it.

Once you finished twisting or braiding the four sections in the back, it’s time to work on the front! You can get creative with this as well. I chose just to use flexi rods, but the choices are endless, depending on the type of curl you’re going for. I was sort of in a hurry so flexi rods were the best for me. In the morning this is what I was working with!

Until next time,

Before We Head Into the New Year..

Hi guys! Happy Almost New Year! Oh,and Merry Christmas!

Before we head into the new year, I wanted to just have a sit down type discussion with you. Let’s all take a virtual seat on my floor LOL

You know that at DR, we don’t only talk about hair, or fashion, or style, but we also think it’s important to keep your spiritual life in check. Now that it’s going to be a new year soon, I want to take a look back on this past year and really reflect on it in the hopes that it will resonate with someone.

My spiritual life took a full on, headspin 345 degree turn this year. I know ya’ll are looking at me like, “345?! What?!” Let me explain. My spiritual life, I must say, took a loss for some time this year. You know when there’s a voice in the back of your head like, “Don’t do that!”, and you do it anyway. Stubbornness, it’ll kill you. So anyway, I did not listen to GOD (because that was the voice in my head) and embarked on a journey that I was never supposed to go on (or maybe I was, in hindsight.) Anyway, that happened and my spiritual life lessened. It was crazy because right before this, my relationship with God was the best it has ever been. And then this.

So, obviously, this THING ended very badly. I was left really distraught and I felt like I had no one. I didn’t even want to go to God because I felt so ashamed that I had done what He told me not to do. Y’all know how the story goes: I eventually ran back, on my knees for forgiveness, and he accepted me FLAWS AND ALL. That’s the kind of God I love and serve.

Not only did he accept me back with open arms, but he has been opening crazy doors for me in my life, and it’s to the point where it can be NOTHING BUT HIM. It’s like,

Me: “God, I really want this.”

God: “Aiight, bet.”

That simple.

And I bless him. You have no idea how much. He definitely doesn’t owe me a dag on thing, but he continues to rain showers of blessings on me for no other reason than His love, and eternal grace and mercy. Not to say that I wouldn’t continue to live life for Him if he didn’t bless me.

Sometimes I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone, y’know? I’m waiting on the other shoe to drop, just because that’s the kind of person I am. I’m human. I”m flawed. I have to repent every day, and sometimes, God literally allows me to bite my tongue (or cheek) because of my mouth. But he still loves me. And for that, I am thankful and am striving to get back to the place where I was before this. Can’t stop, won’t stop.

I pray that this post is an encouragement to someone who needs it, because I needed it when I was in my mess. God is love. Honestly, that’s what it boils down to.

Until next time,

Mandisa ❤

Straight Hair, Don’t Really Care…

Hi lovely people! I hope you’ve had an amazing week so far! This post is about my straight hair that I had for all of THREE DAYS, lol. Let’s pop the top, shall we?

I recently stayed at Irene’s for the weekend and she did my hair! She gave me the whole cannoli, ya’ll. Blow dry, trim, and straighten. I have to admit, I was very excited to see what my hair looked like. I can’t even remember the last time I straightened it. I was itching so bad, I would have done it myself (if I could find my flat iron -_-).

image (1)

It took FOREVERRRRRRRRRR. Oh my God, I don’t know how people go about this process every two weeks, because I can’t deal. Blowdrying took forever, but she used a really good method and several attachments to ensure that my hair was smooth. Here’s what my hair looked like after blowdrying (so I guess this is an impromptu 2014 length check?).

As you can see, I gained a lot of length from the last time I straightened my hair, which you can easily see here:

My ends were struggling LOL. Not really, but it was evident that I needed a trim, so this is what it looked like after the trim

Much better. The ends looked a lot more unified and not like some buck teeth LOL. I still had some length too, so I was pleased about that. My hair was about 14 inches before the trim, so now it might be around 13 inches.

After doing ALLA DAT, Irene then flexi rodded my straight hair for the gawds and my hair turned out flat out fabulous.

Because I didn’t want fairy tale curls (y’know, like Little Red Riding Hood or Snow White), Irene twisted the hair around the rod as she was rolling, which gave a curl that favored curling wand curls. Didn’t I slay? I know.

I washed my straight hair out as soon as I could, though. As I’m progressing in my journey, I’m learning that I really don’t like my hair straightened as much as I used to. I could do without it. I mean, yes, straight hair is fun, but I don’t have to straighten my own hair to get that experience. I love me some straight hair, just not my own LOL

Until next time,

Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise

Hello beautiful people! I hope you’re having an amazing week so far. Today I’m here to talk about a product that is slowly and surely becoming my favorite deep conditioner. It’s an oldie, but it’s SUCH a goodie. That product is ORS Hair Mayonnaise.

So, purely for clarification purchases, let me tell you that this Hair Mayonnaise is THE BOMB DOT COM and if you don’t have it, you need to get your life together. I’ve drafted up some pros of this products for you guys, and honestly, there is nothing negative that I can say about this product.

First of all, this product is a two in one so you really get a bang for your buck here. It’s a protein tratment AND a deep conditioner. You can also use it as a co-wash if you really want to. It has egg protein in it (which makes it a protein treatment), but it also has olive oil, keratin, and glycerin to give you a really good deep conditioner. It’s not a crazy heavy protein treatment, meaning that it doesn’t make your hair hard. That way, if ou’re protein sensitive, you could still use this with no problem.

This product is also an application in itself. No more concocting your own DIY’s at home. It’s all there for you, so you can literally slap it on and go about your business. I use gloves, just in an effort not to waste the product or get my hands all messy.

When washing this out of the hair, tangles slip right out. This product offers tons of slip. Hair is also left really soft, moisturized, and manageable. The softness comes from the deep conditioner portion of the product.

Because this isn’t a heavy protein treatment, you can use it weekly. If this one isn’t available to me, I’ll use the Olive Oil cholesterol, which is also good. For themost part, though, I use this week after week, without fail.

This thing is inexpensive and very cost eeffective! If you want to save your COINT, go out and get you some. I picked up a 16 ounce jar for about $3 at my local Family Dollar.

On dry hair, I’ll spray my hair with water (to make it more manageable and so that I can be able to spread the product). I use about three palm sizes of he product with every application. In the first application, I’ll place it all over one of four sections that my hair is split into. In the second application, I’ll part my hair with my fingers and shingle the product through. In the third application, I’ll go over the section again, just for an even coverage.

I really hope this helps, guys! Try it and let me know what you think.

Until next time,

Mandisa ❤

I’m Back!!….And I Missed You!

GUYS!!!!!! Hello, my beautiful people!!!!! I’m so excited to be writing this, let me tell you. I know it’s been a long time since I’ve written, but I’ve been going through some stuff. Nothing negative, don’t worry!

I had to complete my student teaching (which has been truly AMAZING and more than anything that I could ever ask for), and I had to pass my edTPA (which is just HORRENDOUS – but I passed it with the mastery level because God is good!!!), and I just had some personal stuff going on!

So let’s begin with an update about my hair. I have reached bra strap length 🙂 It’s been about four months, so my hair was bound to grow. The thing is that I was able to retain the length, and I am pleased.

For the most part, I wore a wig as we transitioned here in the U.S from the summer to the fall. But sine about October on, I’ve been wearing my real hair out. The looks from people were hysterical, because they only knew my wig hair. Their faces were priceless.

Anyway, here is my updated routine as of December 2014.

I still wash my hair in four sections, but I co-wash more now. I haven’t shampooed in about a month now. I began co-washing simply because circumstances didn’t allow me to shampoo, and I figured I should try co-washing anyway. I will co-wash weekly after I deep condition with my favorite deep condish. When I am finished, I will add some Mixed Chicks leave-in (this is sort of a variable – if i feel like it). However, I will always, WITHOUT fail, add my moisturizer (Cantu) and oil (Olive). Recently though, I’ve been on the hunt for a styler because I can not usually achieve second day hair and I think that the culprit is that I don’t use any product with hold. I’m pretty basic on wash day usually. I bought a HUGE tub of gel to try a wash and go some weeks ago (more on that soon!), and I decided to use that as a styler. It’s been working pretty well.

That’s really it. I don’t do the extra but necessary things as often anymore (read: hot oil treatments, heavy protein treatments) simply because I’m lazy, but it’s cold, and my hair needs protection. So needless to say, I’ll be doing those.

So this has been an updated routine post, but I should mention to you guys that I met Jenell. No big deal.

She is really an amazing person, and so sweet! She had a pop up meet and greet at a local Target (like, 12 minutes away from me). You know I had to go and meet her, right? She was there promoting the Curls brand, and spoke about how she uses the Blueberry Bliss control paste on her twist outs to style. It was a really awesome talk, and I got a free sample of the Blueberry Curls control paste. It was awesome, and she gave me some good advice about growing the DivinelyRooted brand. I told her about y’all, so if she’s reading, HEYY GIRLLL! I don’t know if you guys know, but she moved closer to me recently and it looks like she’s going to be at a lot more local meet ups, which I LOVE.

Anyway, that’s it for now. I have tons of goodies for you guys, so stay tuned!

Until next time,
